چکیده

Zoonotic leishmaniosis due to Leishmania infantum is a vector-borne disease endemic in southern Europe and dogs are the main reservoir for this infection. Seasonal variations antibody titers species areas where phlebotomine vectors have seasonal patterns of activity important epidemiological, preventive clinical studies related with canine leishmaniosis. It has been suggested that cats, rabbits ferrets may act as peridomestic reservoirs not only accidental hosts. The aim study was determine if seropositive (Mustela putorius furo) could be affected by anti-Leishmania antibodies. A group clinically healthy (n = 21) were included study. significant reduction antibodies detected during non-transmission period (December 2020-February 2021) comparison transmission (April-October 2020). This describes first time variation domestic following natural exposure sand fly non-sand Mediterranean area considered an L. endemic.

Outbreak of canine distemper in domestic ferrets (Mustela putorius furo).

In 2006 an outbreak of canine distemper affected 14 young domestic ferrets in Barcelona, Spain. Their clinical signs included a reduced appetite, lethargy, dyspnoea, coughing, sneezing, mucopurulent ocular and nasal discharges, facial and perineal dermatitis, diarrhoea, splenomegaly and fever. Late in the course of the disease, general desquamation and pruritus, and hyperkeratotic/crusting derm...

Experimental infection of domestic ferrets (Mustela putorius furo) and Siberian polecats (Mustela eversmanni) with Yersinia pestis.

Eight domestic ferrets (Mustela putorius furo) and two Siberian polecats (M. eversmanni) were inoculated subcutaneously with 12 to 1.2 x 10(7) Yersinia pestis originally isolated during an epizootic of plague in white-tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys leucurus) near Meeteetse, Park County, Wyoming (USA) in 1985. None of the ferrets or polecats developed clinical signs of disease which suggested that...

Motion perception deficits in albino ferrets (Mustela putorius furo)

Albino ferrets contrary to their pigmented conspecifics show no optokinetic nystagmus. Therefore, in this study motion perception was compared between pigmented and albino ferrets (Mustela putorius furo) trained to discriminate between coherently moving random dot patterns and dynamic noise stimuli in a two-alternative forced choice task. Fully coherently versus incoherently moving patterns cou...

Visual field defects in albino ferrets (Mustela putorius furo)

The extent of the horizontal visual field was determined behaviourally in 4 pigmented and 5 albino ferrets (Mustela putorius furo, Carnivora, Mammalia) using perimetry. During binocular vision, all pigmented and three albino ferrets responded equally well to stimuli presented anywhere along the horizontal perimeter in the central 180 degrees of the visual field. The remaining two albinos had a ...

Comparison of sevoflurane and isoflurane in domestic ferrets (Mustela putorius furo).

Isoflurane anesthesia is commonly used in ferrets for routine examinations and diagnostics. Sevoflurane is now being used as well, but there have been no studies to date directly comparing these agents in domestic ferrets. A prospective study was designed to evaluate the quality and speed of anesthetic induction and recovery using isoflurane and sevoflurane in ferrets. In addition effects on he...
